About the artist

Growing up in Asbury Park NJ, Matt found his first taste of tattoo culture at a local biker-owned studio. While working at the owner’s skate park, Casino Skate Park, his constant sketching caught the owner’s eye and led to an apprenticeship offer at just 15. From 1997 to 1999, Matt trained under the late, great Gene Bernardo, a respected local legend known for inking icons like Bam Bam Bigelow. By 1999, he was tattooing full-time and has been perfecting his craft ever since.

Versatile in nearly every tattoo style, Matt shines brightest in traditional, Japanese, fine line, black and grey, color, and realism. His passion gravitates toward comic book-inspired pieces, horror motifs, and retro or traditional Japanese work. Every design is approached with an open mind, creative freedom, and a commitment to making each piece truly one of a kind, even when reimagining a familiar concept.

Inspired by industry powerhouses like Mike Schweigart, Tom Yak, Shige, Guy Aitchison, Grime, Mario Barth, Jay Sall, and Paul Booth, Matt draws influence from both celebrated tattoo masters and everyday life. This blend of inspiration fuels his ability to create art that is deeply personal yet universally striking.

Today, Matt works at Club Tattoo in Rochelle Park NJ alongside a team that feels more like family than coworkers. Collaboration and mutual support define his studio experience, whether solving creative challenges or celebrating each other’s wins. One of his proudest projects is guiding a client in his 60s from his very first tattoo to a fully covered body, marking a shared journey through years of trust and artistry.

When he is not tattooing, you might find Matt cooking, fishing, exploring, or spending time with his family. A devoted father, passionate Red Sox and Bruins fan, and believer that “silence is a source of great strength,” he brings the same grounded energy to the studio that he brings to life.
