About the Artist
John’s tattoo journey started with a gift — a tattoo machine that would shape the next chapter of his life. After receiving it, he dove headfirst into the craft, eventually earning a formal apprenticeship under Chris Moretti just outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Since 2017, he’s been tattooing professionally, bringing both skill and soul to every piece he creates.
Now tattooing at Club Tattoo in Tempe, AZ, John’s style is rooted in traditional and fine line work. He’s especially drawn to nature-inspired designs, believing that natural elements carry timeless beauty. From clean, classic lines to more intricate, thoughtful pieces, John’s approach is all about connecting with the client, listening closely, and creating art that brings their vision to life — all while making the process fun and meaningful.
He finds inspiration in legends like Scott Campbell, Jack Rudy, Bert Grimm, Bob Tyrell, and Horiyoshi, and his broader creative style is influenced by artists like Salvador Dali, Frida Kahlo, and Drew Brophy. But much of his work is deeply personal — shaped by his love for the outdoors, surf and skate culture, and the way both art and movement blend into everyday life.
One of his most memorable tattoos? The phrase “Lose the Battle, Win the War,” placed along a client’s scar line. She cried when she saw it — not because it hurt, but because it helped heal something deeper. It’s moments like that that remind John why this work matters.
Outside the shop, John’s world revolves around surfing, skateboarding, music, and time with his family. He’s passionate about art in all its forms and loves sharing the natural world with his son, Elliot. He even studied recording arts in college, and has lived in five different states, always chasing new experiences.
Tattooing has taken him across the country — from Hawaii to Miami, Chicago to Nashville, SF to NYC — but it’s the everyday connections with his clients and fellow artists that keep him grounded. At Club Tattoo, John is part of a tight-knit team that feels more like family — full of positive energy, shared creativity, and a love for what they do.
